I was 24 when I started, but I had grown up playing the violin, so I had some training, which helped. I was greatly inspired by players in New York whom I was lucky enough to meet and watch.

Both, match grip.

I listened to records that made me want to dance, and then a stray lesson here and there, and now I study full-time with Paula Spiro at the Female Drummers Workshop.

I try to keep an open mind and be ready for anything, but it's safe to say that my playing has been heavily influenced by hip-hop records, although the last band I played and recorded with was melodic rock. I also just bought a big djembe, so I am learning about that.

I've been listening to Jaco for the past week.

I'm trying out the Regal Tip Quantum 9000 right now, but I change sticks often since I am playing many styles right now. I like Vic Firth's American Classic Rock Crusher for fill-oriented rock.

With great difficulty, as I have no cases!

No way. But I will say that I have been ignored just because the guy thought I was someone's girlfriend. But hey…whatever.

I am not sure what you are asking here. It is important for a drummer to develop feel, and to be a very good listener.

I cannot really name a favorite, but I will say that I used to go to watch Yuval Gabay play whenever possible because I knew I would end up shaking my booty! I think a good drummer can rock the room no matter what the style of music.

Precarious. Sometimes you have to be the leader musically, and other times you're just expected to be an accompanist and get out of the way. I believe everyone in the band should get at the kit for a rehearsal and see what it takes to be the drummer.

Men have dicks.

I don't waste my blessed breath anymore.

Depends on the man.

I consider myself to be very lucky and I would never complain about who I am. Sometimes it's great to be me, sometimes not, just like everyone else.

No.

No one in the band could play drums, so after I kick-snared for about half an hour I kind of got the job by default and it was so fun I never stopped!

Not long enough! A few months, I think.

Yes

I teach boxing and kickboxing, basic skills. And whatever else pays the bills.

As far as books go, my teacher has me going through a pretty classic repertoire: Joe Cusatis, Jim Chapin, George Stone. Paula Spiro of the Female Drummers Workshop is my teacher, and I recommend her highly!

When the people start dancing and laughing!

To bring a bit of positive energy into the world through music.

Playing my very first gig with HOME at South by Southwest was really a thrill. I had never played for so many people, and it was the culmination of a lot of hard work and I remember feeling really excited while we were playing. The only negative experience I can think of is an equipment mishap. Once during a gig my beater flew out of my pedal at a very inopportune moment. But by and large it's all positive. That is the point.

I'd be a doctor's wife or an alcoholic soap-opera actress.
